How To Compute And Record Learner’s Progress
The Kindergarten Learner’s Progress:
In the assessment of Kindergarten learners, specific guidelines are provided separately. Instead of numerical grades, checklists and anecdotal records aligned with the Kindergarten curriculum guide’s learning standards are employed. Teachers are encouraged to maintain a comprehensive portfolio, which includes writing samples, completed activity sheets, and artwork, offering tangible evidence of a learner’s skill development and competency.
These tools, such as checklists and anecdotal records, help teachers determine whether students are meeting the expected knowledge and task performance for Kindergarten learners while also allowing them to describe students’ behavior, effort, and attitude in school work, all in accordance with DepEd Grading system Order No. 15, s. 2016.
The Grade 1 To 12 Learner’s Progress:
In deped grading system evaluation process within each grading period, a single Quarterly Assessment is mandated, but students are also provided opportunities to showcase their understanding and abilities through Written Work and Performance Tasks. While there is no prescribed number for Written Work and Performance Tasks, they are evenly distributed across the quarter and utilized for skill assessment following the completion of each unit.
To assess student learning at specific intervals throughout the quarter, summative assessments persist in Written Work (Minimum 4) & Performance Tasks (Minimum 4). Written Works, comprising quizzes and long/unit tests, evaluate fundamental knowledge and understanding across Cognitive Process Dimensions. These assessments employ a mix of selected-response and constructed-response formats to ensure comprehensive coverage.

Performance Tasks
This encompasses a variety of assessment activities that allow learners to demonstrate their knowledge and abilities in diverse ways, including skill demonstrations, group presentations, multimedia presentations, and research projects. It’s crucial to ensure that the rubric used for assessing Performance Tasks is clear to the learners using existing rubrics.
In each academic term, a singular Quarterly Assessment is a requirement. Additionally, opportunities for learners to complete Written Work and showcase their knowledge through proficient task performance are provided. While there is no specified quantity for Performance Tasks and Written Work, it is imperative to evenly distribute them throughout the quarter and employ them to assess skills following the completion of each unit.
